Safewire sends one-time verification codes by SMS (or WhatsApp, where the user selects it) solely to verify that a phone number belongs to the person enrolling it. Consent is collected directly in our apps, at the moment the user asks for a code, as documented below.
The wallet opt-in flow (primary)
Phone verification happens during account setup in the Safewire wallet app, in the following order:
- During account setup the user reaches the “Verify Your Phone Number” screen.
- The user selects their country and types their own mobile number. Numbers are never pre-filled, imported, or obtained from any list.
- The user explicitly selects the delivery channel — SMS or WhatsApp — via an on-screen selector.
- Directly above the action button, the screen displays:
By tapping Send Verification Code, you agree to receive a one-time verification code from Safewire on the channel you selected. Message and data rates may apply.
- The user taps Send Verification Code. Only then is a message sent.
- The user enters the received code on the “Enter Your Verification Code” screen.
Consent is express and per-request — a message is only ever sent as the direct result of the user tapping the button. Safewire sends only the verification code. No marketing, promotional, or informational messages are ever sent to these numbers. Codes are six digits, expire after five minutes, and can be used once.

The merchant portal opt-in flow (secondary)
A merchant user enters their mobile number when enabling two-factor authentication on their account in the Safewire merchant portal, and receives a verification code to confirm it. As in the wallet, the number is typed by the user themselves and a message is sent only when they request it.
Message sample
The verification message body is:
The six-digit code varies per request. This is the only category of message Safewire sends to verified numbers.
